Crystal Palace Crowned English Super Cup Champions After Beating Liverpool on Penalties

DID Press: Crystal Palace showed a brilliant display in the English Super Cup, defeating Liverpool 3–2 in a penalty shootout after a 2–2 draw in regular time to claim the title.

The match took place on Sunday evening at Wembley Stadium. Oliver Glasner’s men fell behind early to an Ekitike goal, but Mateta equalized from the penalty spot. Frimpong restored Liverpool’s lead in the 21st minute, before Palace leveled again with a stunning strike from Sarr in the 77th minute. With the score still tied after 90 minutes, the winner was decided on penalties, where Palace’s players delivered a flawless performance.

This triumph holds great significance for Crystal Palace — a team that, despite limited investment, once again stood firm against England’s football giants. Glasner’s success sends a strong message to the club’s management: with squad reinforcement, even greater ambitions can be pursued.

On the other side, Liverpool — boosted by the performances of their new signings — missed out on their first silverware of the season. They must now focus entirely on the Premier League opener, a home match against Bournemouth this Friday. The Super Cup disappointment, however, has done little to dampen fans’ optimism for a successful season ahead.
