Taliban Interior Minister Orders Immediate Aid to Quake Victims

DID Press: Following a powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani instructed all provincial governors, security commanders, and ministry staff to immediately move to affected areas to assist victims.

The earthquake struck at 11:47 p.m. local time on Sunday night, September 1, impacting Kunar, Nuristan, Nangarhar, and Laghman provinces. It was followed by several aftershocks.

U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake at a magnitude of 6.0, occurring 8 kilometers underground.

According to reliable sources, the Taliban administration’s Disaster Management Authority in Kunar has confirmed 700 deaths, as actual casualties expected to reach 900.

Taliban officials are deploying senior personnel to the affected areas, including Nooruddin Torabi, head of the Disaster Management Authority, while Mohammad Isa Thani, acting Minister of Public Works, is also in route to the affected areas.

Taliban Ministry of Defense spokesperson, Enayatullah Khwarazmi, reported that army rescue teams and air force units are actively providing assistance to those affected.
