Islamabad Meeting Planned to Gather Opponents of Afghanistan Government

DID Press: A series of meetings are scheduled to take place late September in Islamabad, Pakistan, bringing together a number of opponents of Afghanistan-led Taliban caretaker government. The gatherings are planned with the participation of Afghanistani political figures and activists which will focus on political discussions and the country’s internal situation.

The Resistance Council, some of whose leadership is based in Turkey, has previously held meetings abroad to discuss the situation in Afghanistan. According to sources, Islamabad meeting is a continuation of these consultations, with several politicians, activists, and other prominent figures expected to attend.

Since the formation of the Resistance Council and similar groups, there have been differing views on their role and significance. Supporters regard these councils as a platform for uniting political forces opposing the Taliban caretaker government, while critics argue that such groups are often influenced by internal divisions and individual agendas.

Islamabad meeting is being viewed within this context: an effort to bring together a segment of the government’s opponents and coordinate their activities at a time when Afghanistan continues to face political and security crises.
