Israeli Court Admits Rights Abuses: Palestinian Prisoners Denied Adequate Food

DID Press: In a rare ruling against the government, Israel’s Supreme Court has confirmed that Palestinian prisoners are being held in conditions where they are not provided with enough food to survive.

In its judgment, the country’s highest court found that the state has failed to supply adequate nutrition to Palestinian detainees, declaring that current practices violate both humanitarian principles and legal standards, and must be corrected immediately.

According to the ruling, many prisoners face severe food shortages, with some deliberately kept hungry—a claim long raised by human rights organizations.

This marks the first time in nearly two years of ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank that Israel’s Supreme Court has openly ruled against the government over the treatment of Palestinian detainees.

Analysts say the decision could deepen tensions between Israel’s judiciary and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, particularly with the military and security establishment.
