Trump Pressuring NATO Countries to Halt Buying Russian Oil

DID Press: US President Donald Trump vowed the United States will only impose new sanctions on Russia if all NATO member countries stop buying Russian oil.

Trump recently announced that the U.S. is prepared to implement fresh energy sanctions against Russia, but only on the condition that all NATO members halt Russian oil imports and take similar measures.

“I am ready to impose major sanctions on Russia, once all NATO countries agree and begin implementing the same measures, and when all NATO countries stop buying Russian oil,” Trump wrote in a post on social media.

In recent weeks, U.S. has intensified pressure on NATO allies to escalate energy sanctions against Russia, aiming to accelerate an end to the war in Ukraine—a conflict that Trump has struggled to influence despite repeated threats of harsher penalties against Moscow and its allies.

Domestically, Trump has faced criticism for repeatedly setting two-week deadlines for Russia while allowing those deadlines to pass without any concrete action.
