Pakistani Envoy to Visit Kabul with Stern Warning

DID Press: Following killing of dozens of Pakistani soldiers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in attacks claimed by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Muhammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, is expected to travel to Kabul carrying a warning message.

Diplomatic sources told the News that Sadiq will arrive in Kabul early next week to deliver Islamabad’s stern warning to the Taliban’s caretaker government over its alleged support for the TTP and providing safe havens for the group inside Afghanistan.

The Taliban administration has repeatedly denied supporting TTP.

Meanwhile, Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, formally requested the Taliban envoy in Islamabad to facilitate dialogue between the provincial government and the TTP. According to Express Tribune, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities urged the Taliban to mediate peace talks with the group, suggesting that a formal jirga be held in Kabul or elsewhere in Afghanistan.

Islamabad has consistently pressed the Taliban to end support for the TTP, which Pakistani officials blame for bloodshed and terrorist attacks inside Pakistan. Authorities in Islamabad further claim the group receives financial, military, and training support from India, documents of which have reportedly been shared with Kabul.

This diplomatic push comes after recent clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa left 19 Pakistani soldiers dead.

Muhammad Sadiq, who previously played a key role in Doha talks on Afghanistan, recently visited the United Arab Emirates and is expected to return to Islamabad on Monday before departing for Kabul.

The trip also follows the recent exchange of bodies between Pakistani authorities and the TTP.
