Khalilzad: UN in Crisis, Needs Major Overhaul

DID Press: Former U.S. Special Representative on Afghanistan peace process, Zalmay Khalilzad, criticized UN ahead of the 80th UN General Assembly, describing the organization as being in crisis.

Khalilzad said the UN has failed to fulfill its primary mission of maintaining international peace and security and is currently facing a “crisis.”

He urged world leaders, particularly the U.S. president, to implement comprehensive reforms to enable the UN to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

Khalilzad warned that without such reforms, the organization risks becoming increasingly irrelevant.
