CIA Ex-Officer Claims Taliban Cut Internet to Conceal Transfer of Foreign Fighters

DID Press: Former CIA officer Sarah Adams has alleged that the Taliban shut down internet access across Afghanistan to conceal the transfer of foreign fighters from the Bagram airbase to other camps.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Adams wrote: “The Taliban shut down the internet so that the transfer of thousands of foreign fighters would not be documented.”

According to her, the blackout coincided with ongoing talks between the Taliban and the United States, suggesting that the move was intended to keep Washington “calm and uninformed.”

Adams urged that the Taliban’s movements be monitored through satellite imagery so that governments “downplaying the group’s activities realize the real threat.”

The former intelligence officer described the Taliban as “Neanderthals,” claiming they are incapable of governance and indifferent to the Afghan people. She also called for an immediate end to any U.S. taxpayer-funded assistance to the Taliban and demanded the arrest of fighters being relocated under their control.

The remarks come amid a nationwide internet blackout in Afghanistan ordered by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada. The shutdown, which began on Tuesday evening, has disrupted online banking, commercial transactions, air travel, and public services. Even the official websites of Taliban ministries remain offline.
