DID Press: A Pakistani security official has dismissed recent reports suggesting that Pasni Port in Baluchistan might be handed over to the United States, describing the idea as purely a commercial proposal with no official military involvement.

“Discussions or proposals put forward by private individuals or commercial companies are exploratory and should not be considered as formal government initiatives,” the official said.
According to the official, the concept of a port on Pakistan’s southern coast was raised in private talks with the Mota Engil Group. “This idea has not been presented through official channels, has not been reviewed at any strategic or governmental level, and remains a commercial project requiring proper evaluation,” the official added.
A senior Pakistani security source also clarified that Army Chief Marshal Asim Munir does not have any formal advisors.
The statement comes a day after the British newspaper Financial Times reported on the proposed port project for potential American investors, suggesting that Asim Munir has advisors. The security official countered, saying, “The FT report itself acknowledges that this is not official policy, yet it implies a connection to the Army Chief—which is incorrect.”
Pakistani security sources emphasized that the country manages its foreign relations, including with global powers, based on national interests, and any decisions Pakistan makes—now or in the future—will be guided by those interests.
