Taliban FM Muttaqi in Moscow for Regional Talks

DID Press: Foreign Minister of the Taliban government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in Moscow on Monday (October 6, 2025) to participate in the international “Moscow Format” talks.

The Moscow Format meeting, attended by representatives from several regional countries, focuses on addressing shared economic, security, and diplomatic challenges and opportunities.

According to informed sources, Afghanistan-related issues are a key item on the agenda. Russian officials have said that the talks aim to strengthen regional cooperation, reduce common security threats, and advance economic projects in the framework of Afghanistan’s stability.

In previous foreign visits, Muttaqi has emphasized the need for Taliban recognition, lifting sanctions, and facilitating economic relations with regional countries. He is expected to highlight these topics during the Moscow meetings as well.

The Moscow Format is a regional diplomatic initiative led by Russia, involving countries such as China, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Central Asian states, aimed at reviewing the situation in Afghanistan.
