UK Closes Nesscliffe Camp as Afghanistani Refugees Resettled Nationwide

DID Press: After two years of temporary accommodation, Afghanistani refugees who had fled the country for assisting British forces have now been permanently resettled across the United Kingdom.

The UK government announced that the Nesscliffe Camp, which had served as a temporary housing site for Afghanistani evacuees over the past two years, has been officially closed.

Located in Yorkshire, the camp hosted more than 1,500 Afghanistani refugees — many of them families and individuals who fled Afghanistan following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.

A large number of the residents had worked with the British military during its operations in Afghanistan and were considered at high risk of persecution by the Taliban.

British officials confirmed that all residents of Nesscliffe Camp have now been moved into permanent homes across the country and that the facility will no longer be used to accommodate new arrivals.
