Taliban Demolish Tomb of Renowned Afghanistani Poet Khalilullah Khalili

DID Press: Cultural sources and videos circulating on social media indicate that Taliban forces have demolished the mausoleum of Ustad Khalilullah Khalili, one of Afghanistan’s most celebrated Persian-language poets and literary figures, located within the grounds of Kabul University.

According to cultural activists, the demolition took place on Saturday, October 25, when bulldozers belonging to the Taliban-controlled Kabul municipality razed the structure under direct orders from local authorities.

Images and footage from the site have sparked widespread outrage among poets, writers, and social media users.

Critics have condemned the move as part of a systematic campaign by the Taliban to erase cultural and historical symbols that do not align with their ideological framework.

The incident comes just two days after another poet’s tomb in Badakhshan Province was reportedly attacked and set ablaze — heightening concerns over the Taliban’s continued assaults on Afghanistan’s literary and cultural heritage.
