Afghanistanis Lead List of Migrants Detained in Turkey

DID Press: Turkish authorities said operations to identify and detain undocumented migrants continue across the country, emphasizing that no one without legal status will be allowed to reside in Turkey.

Turkish Interior Ministry reported that since the beginning of 2025, more than 122,000 undocumented migrants from various countries have been detained nationwide.

According to official statistics, over 30,000 of those detained are Afghanistani nationals, identified and apprehended in multiple cities across Turkey.

Following Afghanistani nationals, the largest groups of detained migrants are reportedly from Syria, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.

Turkish government has not released information regarding the fate of these migrants or whether they will be deported to their home countries.

Officials have stressed that large-scale operations to identify and detain undocumented migrants are ongoing, underlining that unauthorized presence in Turkey is “completely unacceptable.”
