Ghani Featured among Figures “Betrayed by Trusting US” in New Tehran Mural

DID Press: A new mural unveiled at Tehran’s Enghelab (Revolution) Square features political figures portrayed as having trusted the United States and ultimately faced defeat and collapse — highlighting once again the critical stance of Iranian artists toward Washington’s policies.

Coinciding with the anniversary of November 4 (13 Aban in Iran), the mural titled “Behind the Promises of Freedom” was revealed in a public ceremony.

The artwork, displayed under the slogan “America is the Great Satan,” conveys a visual message of distrust toward U.S. foreign policy.

In the mural, Ashraf Ghani, former president of Afghanistan who fled the country as the Taliban returned to power, appears alongside several political leaders from different countries who, according to the creators, relied on U.S. support but ultimately faced a humiliating fate.

At the center of the piece stands a dark-toned depiction of the Statue of Liberty, staring directly at viewers — a symbolic illustration of what the artists describe as “the true face of American policy.”

According to organizers, the aim of the mural is to remind the public of countries that placed their trust in U.S. promises and subsequently suffered internal crises and political collapse.
