Lavrov: Europe Preparing for Major War against Russia

DID Press: Russian FM Sergey Lavrov warned that European countries are preparing themselves for a large-scale confrontation with Moscow. He stressed that Russia will only be ready to engage in dialogue with the European Union once what he called Europe’s “anti-Russian hysteria” comes to an end.

In an interview with an Italian newspaper, Lavrov said that recent actions by the European Union and NATO members show clear signs that “Europe is getting ready for a major war against Russia.”

“European nations have practically mobilized all their political, economic, and military infrastructures to counter Russia. We view this trend as a serious threat to the security of the continent and to global stability,” Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister added that Moscow currently sees no reason to pursue talks with the European Union, arguing that the political environment in Europe is “dominated by anti-Russian policies and Washington’s influence.”

“Russia is ready to resume balanced and respectful relations with Europe once this madness of Russophobia ends,” Lavrov continued. “But as long as European leaders maintain their hostile policies, no constructive engagement will be possible.”

Lavrov’s remarks come as NATO member states have focused in recent months on boosting defense spending and expanding their military presence in Eastern Europe—steps Moscow has repeatedly denounced as preparations for a “direct confrontation” with Russia.
