China Warns US Over Taiwan Arms Sale

DID Press: China sharply criticized the US $330 million military equipment sale to Taiwan, urging Washington to exercise “utmost caution” in dealing with the island.

Chen Binghua, spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, called on the U.S. to adhere to the One-China principle, respect the three China-U.S. joint communiqués—especially the August 17 statement—and stop supporting Taiwan’s separatist forces.

The arms sale drew praise from Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), prompting a stern response from Beijing. Chen said the move undermines China’s sovereignty and security, sends the “wrong signal” to pro-independence forces, and heightens tensions in the Taiwan Strait.

He accused Taiwan’s leadership of seeking foreign support, escalating militarization, and spending public funds in ways that turn the island into a “powder keg.” Chen warned that reliance on external backing for independence “will only lead to a dead end” and vowed that China will take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
