Khalilzad: Pakistan’s View of Doha Deal “Wrong and Out of Context”
DID Press: Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, said Pakistan’s interpretation of Doha Agreement is “wrong and incorrect.” His comments came in response to statements by Pakistan Army spokesperson Sharif Chaudhry.

According to Khalilzad, the Doha Agreement was designed primarily to regulate relations between the United States and the Taliban and does not directly address bilateral issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Khalilzad stressed that if Kabul and Islamabad are concerned about groups or individuals using one country’s territory against the other, the appropriate solution is to sign a bilateral security agreement between the two neighbors. Such an accord, he argued, would serve the interests of both sides and help reduce tensions.
He further suggested that any prospective agreement should be implemented and monitored under the supervision of a neutral third party in order to build trust between the two countries.
