UNICEF Sounds Alarm on Children’s Crisis in Eastern Afghanistan
DID Press: UNICEF has warned that heavy snowfall in earthquake-affected areas of eastern Afghanistan has significantly worsened the humanitarian situation, particularly for children.

UNICEF said severe winter conditions have compounded the hardships faced by families already impacted by recent earthquakes, intensifying risks for vulnerable children.
In a statement, UNICEF announced many children in the affected areas are facing acute shortages of adequate shelter, heating equipment, and basic services, while harsh winter weather has made access to humanitarian assistance increasingly difficult.
The agency noted that despite ongoing relief efforts, children’s needs are rising rapidly and additional urgent support is required to prevent a further escalation of the humanitarian crisis.
Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF’s Representative in Afghanistan, expressed deep concern over the situation, warning that children and displaced families are facing serious threats amid extreme cold, and that any delay in aid delivery can have grave consequences.
Aid organizations have also cautioned that prolonged severe winter conditions may deepen the earthquake-related crisis and endanger the lives of thousands of families in the affected regions.
