Afghanistan Hosts First Public Snowboarding Event in Kabul with 100 Athletes

DID Press: Afghanistan Snowboarding Federation held the country’s first public snowboarding event in Kabul, with 100 young athletes taking part on the hills and slopes of Omid-e Sabz township following recent snowfall.

The event aimed to introduce and promote winter sports, particularly snowboarding, among youth while fostering social engagement and enthusiasm.

Despite sporadic efforts over past decades to develop winter sports in Afghanistan, disciplines such as snowboarding and skiing have faced significant infrastructure and resource limitations, especially in colder provinces like Bamiyan.

Participants praised the opportunity to practice snowboarding techniques and highlighted how such events inspire greater youth involvement in sports. The federation pledged that similar programs would continue in the future, marking an important step toward the growth of winter sports in Afghanistan.
