Iran’s New Move to Connect Afghanistan to Global Markets

DID Press: Iranian officials are pursuing plans to transform the Dogharoun Special Economic Zone into an international economic hub, In a bid to strengthen trade relations between Iran and Afghanistan.

Iranian authorities say efforts are underway to upgrade the Dogharoun Special Economic Zone into a global trade and logistics center. The zone is one of Iran’s most important commercial corridors to Afghanistan, with more than 60 percent of Iran’s exports to Afghanistan currently passing through it.

Iran hopes that by improving infrastructure and facilitating trade procedures, this route can be turned into a major gateway linking Afghanistan to global markets.

Located on the Iran–Afghanistan border, the Dogharoun Special Economic Zone holds significant potential to become an international economic center due to its strategic geographic position.

At present, the zone not only serves as a bridge between the two countries, but could also play a key role in expanding Iran’s economic relations with other regional countries and even global markets in the future.
