Khalilzad: Pakistan’s Security Policy Failed in Balochistan

DID Press: Reacting to recent surge of attacks in Pakistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Peace process, criticized Pakistan’s security policy in Balochistan. He emphasized the urgent need for a shift in Islamabad’s security strategy to bring stability to the area.

Pakistan’s current approach has failed to establish lasting peace and security in Balochistan, a situation that poses a serious threat to Pakistan’s internal security, Khalilzad remarked, warning that continuing the same path could have widespread consequences for Pakistan’s stability and regional security.

“Balochistan has long faced local grievances and security tensions,” Khalilzad noted, adding that the need for a new, fundamental strategy to address the region’s crisis is becoming more pressing.

This issue holds significant importance not just for Pakistan but also for Afghanistan, as instability in Balochistan can negatively impact the security and stability of neighboring countries.

Khalilzad concluded by urging Pakistan to change its approach in Balochistan to prevent further escalation of the crisis and maintain regional security.
