DID Press: Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in an interview with Al Arabiya, warned that any new attack on Iran could have adverse consequences for global security and regional stability.

Lavrov said further strikes on Iran would carry severe repercussions, stressing that “the consequences would be dire.” He recalled that previous attacks had targeted Iranian nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He added that attacks by the US and Israel on Iran in June 2025 not only undermined the credibility of the IAEA and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, but also created “real risks of a nuclear incident.”
According to Lavrov, based on information from Iranian counterparts, the situation is currently relatively stable. However, strikes on nuclear facilities have forced Tehran to rethink physical protection measures for nuclear materials under IAEA control, which must not be subjected to attack.
He emphasized that beyond physical risks, these actions have damaged the credibility of both the IAEA and the Non-Proliferation Treaty—an agreement that Iranian officials say they remain committed to observing.
Lavrov also noted that after signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA), IAEA oversight of Iran’s nuclear activities had been “unprecedented,” and that Tehran had never been formally accused of breaching the NPT or its safeguards agreement with the Agency.
He concluded that the current risks and political tensions emerged after the US withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, three years after the agreement entered into force.
