FAO Grants $6M to Boost Afghan Agribusinesses
DID Press: Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) announced it will provide up to $6 million in non-repayable grants to agribusinesses in Afghanistan under an emergency food security project aimed at strengthening national food security.

The funding will support farmers, small and medium-sized agribusinesses, and entrepreneurs engaged in agricultural production and processing. The program seeks to boost domestic output, strengthen rural livelihoods, and reduce reliance on food imports.
FAO said the grants will be allocated in a needs-based and adaptive manner, with beneficiaries selected through a transparent process based on defined criteria.
The organization added that the project’s core focus is on improving agricultural land productivity, strengthening value chains, and enhancing production capacity to withstand climate-related shocks.
Afghanistan has faced successive food security crises in recent years, with reports indicating that millions of people require humanitarian assistance. The initiative is expected to reduce vulnerability and create employment opportunities in rural areas.
