Durrani: Pakistan No Longer Tolerate Cross-Border Militant Hideouts

DID Press: Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former special representative for Afghanistan, described last night’s Pakistani airstrikes in Nangarhar and Paktika Provinces as a “clear and calibrated message” to the Taliban.

Writing on X, he said Islamabad will no longer tolerate “cross-border sanctuaries” of militant groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and Islamic State Khorasan Province.

Durrani warned that in the absence of what he termed “credible action” by Kabul, Pakistan will resort to “harsher measures,” while adding that regional stability ultimately lies in cooperation rather than escalation.

Pakistan claims the strikes were carried out on the basis of “precise intelligence” and targeted active hideouts. The Taliban administration, however, denounced the operation as a “violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty” and said civilian areas were hit, reporting casualties among women and children.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense warned that a response would come “at an appropriate time.”
