Proposal to send comprehensive Pakistani delegation to Afghanistan

DID Press: Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, called for sending a comprehensive delegation from Pakistan to Afghanistan to negotiate with Taliban government officials.

Afridi said on Wednesday at the inauguration of a project in Peshawar that this delegation should consist of federal and provincial officials, religious scholars, and tribal elders.

He added, ‘In our view, such a jirga can be effective, and if a comprehensive delegation goes to Afghanistan, the situation will likely improve.’

This comes amid repeated claims by Islamabad that armed groups use Afghan territory to carry out attacks in Pakistan. In response, the Taliban government has denied these allegations, stressing that Afghanistan is not responsible for Pakistan’s ‘security failures.’
