Politico: Trump Administration Struggles with War Planning and Citizen Evacuations

DID Press: Politico reports growing disarray in the Trump administration’s preparations for a potential war with Iran. The report says the U.S. State Department acted late in issuing evacuation orders for citizens, while the Pentagon is scrambling to deploy additional intelligence personnel to support operations, highlighting a lack of coordinated decision-making from the outset.

A former U.S. diplomat described the situation as a “completely ad hoc operation,” noting that few officials anticipated imminent military action. The deaths of at least six U.S. service members in Kuwait have raised questions about the vulnerability of American facilities to drone attacks.

According to Politico, the State Department issued serious evacuation warnings only after airspace closures and widespread flight cancellations, leaving thousands of Americans stranded in the region. Domestically, several governors and senators have accused the administration of failing in its duties and called for an investigation into crisis management.

The report underscores that, contrary to initial claims, the U.S. government was caught off guard by the conflict, with diplomatic and military agencies now scrambling to manage its consequences.
