A 160,000-ton oil tanker flying a Barbados flag reportedly ignored designated restrictions and entered a sensitive operational zone. IRGC naval forces placed the vessel on high alert, prompting it to suddenly change course and exit the area—a move confirmed by released maritime imagery and tracking data.
The IRGC said the incident was more than a simple stop, framing it as proof of Iran’s control over one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints. The maneuver also served as a clear deterrent message to regional and extra-regional actors: passage through the Strait must follow established rules.
