Rahmatullah Nabil: Taliban “Locking Afghanistan’s Future” by Banning Girls’ Education
DID Press: Rahmatullah Nabil, former intelligence chief of Afghanistan, warned that the continued closure of girls’ schools by the Taliban is not only blocking education but also placing the country’s future at serious risk. His remarks came as the new academic year began under ongoing restrictions on female students.

Speaking on Monday, Nabil reposted a video on the X showing schoolgirls marching four years ago. He wrote that “the future of any nation is built on knowledge, awareness, and hope,” adding that preventing education is not merely a political or religious decision but “an open hostility toward the destiny of a nation.”
He further stated that when ignorance is treated as sacred, darkness prevails, arguing that Taliban policies have pushed Afghanistan away from progress and toward decline. Despite the current situation, Nabil expressed hope that the restrictions will not last forever, saying that “no darkness is permanent, and light will ultimately find its way.”
Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have kept schools closed to girls above the sixth grade and barred women from attending universities. These measures have left millions of girls and women across Afghanistan without access to education, severely limiting their future opportunities and raising global concern about the country’s long-term development.
