DID Press: Donald Trump sharply criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, calling the alliance a “paper tiger” and accusing it of failing to support the United States during the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Trump said NATO was effectively absent at a critical moment when Washington needed backing, noting that the alliance neither supplied even limited military equipment nor endorsed U.S. actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. He described this response as a “major mistake” by the alliance.
Highlighting the substantial financial contributions the United States makes each year to sustain and strengthen NATO, Trump argued that Washington has consistently stood by its allies. However, he suggested that recent developments may prompt a reassessment of the necessity of maintaining the current level of U.S. support.
He added that the crisis validated his long-standing warnings about NATO’s potential inability to act decisively during critical moments, emphasizing that the United States would remember this experience when shaping future policy decisions.
