Iran’s Structural Resilience in Week 5 of War; Warning on Energy, Water, and Food Links

DID Press: Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ South Asia director, Mohammadreza Bahrami, highlighted the “significant gap between aggressor nations’ objectives and on-the-ground realities” as the fifth week of the ongoing war begins.

Bahrami emphasized Iran’s institutional resilience, noting that a decision-making framework centered on the Supreme National Security Council ensures continuity and stability of the country’s governance structure.

He warned that attacks on critical infrastructure intensify the interdependence of energy, water, and food sectors, potentially impacting vulnerable regions. Highlighting regional reliance on desalination, he noted that in some countries, 40–99% of freshwater needs are met this way, making energy disruptions capable of triggering cascading crises.

Bahrami added that energy interruptions not only affect the petrochemical sector but also disrupt fertilizer supply chains, threaten agricultural production, and ultimately heighten regional food insecurity.
