Pak–Afghan Peace Jirga to Be Held in Peshawar

DID Press: A joint peace jirga between Pakistan and Afghanistan is scheduled for March 31 in Peshawar, aiming to establish a common framework for peace, stability, and dialogue amid rising border tensions.

According to Arbab Shehzad Khan, head of Aspire-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a former provincial official, the jirga will include political leaders, tribal elders, religious scholars, civil society representatives, business leaders, and media personnel.

Shehzad Khan said the primary goal is to strengthen mutual trust, foster respect, and create a platform for effective dialogue to achieve lasting peace between Kabul and Islamabad. A joint declaration is expected to be issued at the conclusion of the jirga and presented to both governments.

This initiative comes as Pakistan recently launched the military operation “Ghadeb-ul-Haq” against what it calls armed groups and their infrastructure, following increased tensions along the shared border.

Organizers emphasized that such initiatives are an “urgent necessity” in the current context, with plans underway to hold similar meetings in Quetta and other regions. Participants are expected to call on leaders from both countries to declare an immediate ceasefire, reduce tensions, and resolve disputes through diplomatic dialogue, paving the way for lasting regional stability.
