Taliban to Secure Long-Term Fuel Supply from Russia
DID Press: Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan announced that the Taliban intends to purchase approximately two million tons of fuel from Russia annually, with a long-term contract to be signed in Kazan.

According to Russian media citing officials from the trade center, negotiations for the long-term agreement are set to take place soon in Kazan.
Previously, fuel purchase agreements between Afghanistan and Russia were generally short-term, lasting three to six months, and renewed upon expiration.
However, plans for a long-term contract coincide with the upcoming 2026 Kazan International Economic Forum (KazanForum 2026).
Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, stated that Afghanistan has a strong interest in procuring fuel from Russia and that energy exports to the country are a key focus of discussions.
He also added that a long-term agreement could bring greater stability to economic relations between the two nations and ensure a continuous supply of fuel.
