Pakistan’s FM Heads to China Amid Middle East Peace Efforts

DID Press: Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, traveled to China today, Tuesday (March 31), at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, as the war against Iran enters its fifth week with no clear end in sight.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials are set to discuss regional developments and bilateral matters.

Both Pakistan and China are advocating negotiations between Iran and the United States to resolve the ongoing crisis, which has disrupted global markets and pushed oil prices higher.

Pakistan is positioning itself as a potential mediator, leveraging its relations with former U.S. President Donald Trump and longstanding ties with Iran.

Islamabad recently hosted the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt to discuss the Middle East crisis and proposed facilitating peace talks between the U.S. and Iran.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, endorsed Pakistan’s mediation efforts and expressed China’s readiness to coordinate toward a ceasefire and peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Trump has sent mixed signals, claiming ongoing negotiations with Iran while also raising the possibility of expanded military operations. Iran has rejected any direct talks with the U.S.

Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives highlight the country’s growing role as a key regional mediator in escalating Middle East tensions.
