Floods and Severe Weather Leave 31 Dead and Injured in Afghanistan

DID Press: National Disaster Management Authority under the Taliban administration reported that natural disasters over the past 24 hours have resulted in 31 casualties, including both fatalities and injuries across Afghanistan.

According to the agency, heavy rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides, and lightning strikes that left 14 people dead and 17 others injured. The disasters also caused extensive material damage in several affected areas.

Officials stated that approximately 476 homes were destroyed as a result of the severe weather events. Initial assessments further indicate that 603 families have been affected, while 1,423 jeribs of agricultural land, 16 shops, 23 water supply networks, and a number of wells sustained damage.

The authority emphasized that damage assessments are ongoing and warned that the number of casualties and losses could rise as rescue and evaluation operations continue. This incident follows earlier warnings from international agencies about heightened flood risks due to intensified seasonal rainfall patterns in the region.
