DID Press: While Pakistan and Afghanistan are set to resume peace negotiations today (Wednesday) under the mediation of China in the city of Ürümqi, local sources in Kunar province report that Taliban forces attacked several Pakistani border posts, killing at least two Pakistani soldiers.

Diplomatic sources in Islamabad confirmed that Pakistan and Afghanistan will launch a new round of peace talks in Ürümqi following extensive diplomatic efforts by Beijing and a neutral invitation from Chinese authorities.
During the initial phase of the meeting, participants are expected to review the background and outcomes of previous negotiations held in Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Chinese officials will then assess both sides’ positions and attempt to establish a framework for reducing tensions and resolving core disputes.
Delegations from both countries will include officials from security, defense, and foreign affairs ministries. China has emphasized its commitment to facilitating a peaceful and sustainable resolution between the two neighboring states.
Border Violence Intensifies in Parallel
This diplomatic initiative comes as border tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan escalate once again. Local sources in Kunar Province reported that Taliban forces targeted several Pakistani military posts Tuesday evening in the Wara Sar area of Shultan district. At least two Pakistani soldiers were killed during the exchange of fire.
Kunar remains one of the most sensitive frontier zones between the two countries and has witnessed repeated clashes in recent months—particularly following increased Pakistani artillery and drone strikes that triggered retaliatory actions by Taliban forces.
The simultaneous launch of peace negotiations and renewed border fighting underscores the complex and distrustful security environment surrounding the talks. Continued tensions along other border sectors are widely expected to influence the trajectory and prospects of the negotiations.
