DID Press: Afghanistan United Front said on Friday that its forces captured a Taliban base in Al-Farouq district of Ghor province during a nighttime operation, killing two Taliban members and wounding four others.
In a statement, the group said the operation took place on Thursday night following heavy clashes, after which Taliban forces fled the site. The United Front released videos purporting to show the operation, including gunfire and a room containing Taliban weapons and ammunition.
The Taliban have not officially commented on the claim.The attack was part of a series of recent operations by the United Front, led by Sami Sadat, which began on July 31 and have included attacks in Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Badakhshan and Faryab provinces.
Sadat previously said the group’s “political phase” had ended and that it had entered a “military phase” against the Taliban. He said the group’s objective was to overthrow the Taliban and establish a transitional government involving different segments of Afghan society.
Al-Farouq district, northwest of Firuzkoh, was established as a new administrative unit after the Taliban returned to power. Its location is considered strategically important for controlling communication routes in Ghor.
The reported capture of the base would put additional pressure on the Taliban and could signal an expansion of armed opposition operations in central Afghanistan.
