Taliban, UNHCR Hold High-Level Talks on Migrant Crisis and Returnees
DID Press: Taliban’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Abdul Kabir, held talks with Arafat Jamal, a senior representative of the UNHCR, focusing on the situation of Afghan migrants in neighboring countries and returnees to Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted the challenges faced by Afghan migrants in Pakistan, noting difficulties in registration processes in camps such as Zakhel and Hamza, as well as limited access to essential services including healthcare, education, and shelter.
He stressed the need for stronger international cooperation to address the growing humanitarian needs of Afghan migrants.
In response, Jamal announced the formation of an international working group aimed at mobilizing financial resources and improving coordination to support Afghan migrants in host countries and inside Afghanistan. He also confirmed that delegations from the group would soon visit Afghanistan for on-the-ground assessments.
He further referred to ongoing support programs for returnees, including the establishment of two large carpet-weaving factories in Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif, where hundreds of returnees are employed.
Both sides emphasized continued cooperation to improve conditions for Afghan migrants and strengthen reintegration efforts for returnees.
