Afghanistan Falls to 11th Place in 2026 Global Terrorism Index

DID Press: Latest Global Terrorism Index shows that Afghanistan has dropped two positions to rank 11th among countries most affected by terrorism in 2026, while Pakistan has moved to the top of the global list.

According to the annual report, Afghanistan previously ranked ninth in 2025. The two-place decline reflects shifting patterns in regional security threats and changes in the intensity and distribution of terrorist activity.

In the same ranking, Pakistan was identified as the country suffering the highest impact from terrorism this year, with analysts attributing the shift largely to an increase in militant attacks and rising insecurity in border regions.

Security experts note that the index evaluates countries based on the number of attacks, casualties, threat severity, and the broader economic and social consequences of terrorism.

The Global Terrorism Index is widely used by policymakers and researchers to assess trends in global security and to compare the relative impact of terrorism across regions.
