Over 80 Former UK Diplomats Call for Suspension of Trade Deals with Israel

DID Press: More than 80 former British diplomats have signed an open letter urging United Kingdom and the European Union to suspend trade agreements with Israel, citing concerns over what they describe as the accelerated annexation of Palestinian territories.

According to international media reports, the signatories also called for a ban on imports from Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, arguing that such measures are necessary to uphold international law and preserve the viability of a two-state solution.

The letter warns that continued expansion of settlements in the West Bank undermines prospects for lasting peace and violates international legal norms.

The former diplomats cautioned that global inaction could lead to a “point of no return” regarding territorial annexation.

While the UK government has not formally responded to the letter, it has previously stated that Israeli settlement activity is illegal under international law. Some EU officials have also indicated that trade relations could be reassessed if settlement expansion continues.

The appeal comes amid escalating tensions in the region and growing international concern over the future of the peace process in the Middle East.
