Taliban Restrict Political Media Guests to Government-Approved Voices

DID Press: Ministry of Information and Culture (Taliban) has ordered domestic media outlets to invite only officially approved guests to political programs, tightening control over public discourse in Afghanistan.

Under the new directive, media organizations are required to feature only individuals who possess identification cards and formal authorization from the ministry in political discussions and broadcasts. Officials describe the move as part of broader efforts to regulate media content.

Media advocacy groups have criticized the decision, warning that it significantly restricts freedom of expression and limits diversity of viewpoints. According to these groups, such measures could undermine access to independent and balanced information for the public.

Media observers also view the directive as part of a wider trend toward increased control over the political narrative, arguing that restricting guest participation to “approved” figures may effectively eliminate dissenting voices and reduce critical scrutiny of authorities.
