Taliban Leader Approves Afghanistan’s 1405 Budget

DID Press: Hibatullah Akhundzada has approved Afghanistan’s national budget for the 1405 fiscal year, according to sources close to the Taliban administration, with reports indicating salary increases for parts of the public sector.

Sources say the budget was finalized following internal reviews, introducing adjustments in resource allocation alongside higher wages for some government departments.

Economic observers note that salary increases could ease financial pressure on public employees, but warn that effective implementation will require stronger fiscal management and transparency.

The approval process has also drawn scrutiny, as analysts point out that standard budgeting practices typically involve legislative oversight and technical review by economic institutions—mechanisms currently absent in Afghanistan’s governance structure.

They caution that concentrating the process within political leadership without institutional checks could reduce financial transparency, increase the risk of misallocation, and impact long-term public trust in economic management.
