Women’s Dedicated Market Boosts Economic Participation in Herat
DID Press: A women-only market has been launched in Herat to support female entrepreneurship and expand economic opportunities for women.

The newly established market provides a secure environment where women can directly sell their handmade products, including traditional crafts, clothing, and home-based goods.
Local officials said the initiative aims to strengthen women’s role in the local economy and support small businesses led by women. They added that the project is expected to increase household incomes and improve living conditions for participating families.
According to available estimates, a significant number of women in Herat are already engaged in various economic activities, and such dedicated marketplaces could further integrate them into the formal economy.
Entrepreneurship advocates have welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step toward sustainable growth of women-led businesses, provided that similar initiatives continue in the future.
