US to Close Peshawar Consulate Over Security Concerns

DID Press: US Department of State has announced the gradual closure of its consulate in Peshawar, citing security concerns and resource management priorities.

According to the statement, diplomatic engagement with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be transferred to the US Embassy in Islamabad.

The decision, officials said, is aimed at ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel while improving operational efficiency.

Despite the closure, Washington emphasized that it will continue engagement with local authorities and communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to support regional security, strengthen economic ties, and advance US interests.

The statement added that US diplomatic missions in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore will remain operational and continue to play a key role in maintaining bilateral relations between the United States and Pakistan.
