Karzai Accuses Pakistan of Seeking to Legitimize ‘Durand Line’
DID Press: Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has accused Pakistan of intensifying military and economic pressure in border areas in an effort to legitimize the disputed Durand Line, amid rising tensions along the frontier.

Hamid Karzai said in a statement that Islamabad has increased pressure on communities living near the so-called “Durand Line,” which he described as a “hypothetical line,” alleging that the measures are aimed at forcing local residents to turn to Pakistani authorities for resolving security and administrative issues.
Karzai also referred to recent agreements reportedly signed between tribal elders on both sides of the border, noting that Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has publicly welcomed such arrangements.
He warned that these developments represent an attempt to formalise the disputed border and undermine Afghanistan’s sovereignty, calling on authorities to provide clear explanations to the public regarding ongoing changes in the border regions.
