Tajikistan Deports 250 Afghan Migrant Families Over ‘Legal Violations’

DID Press: Tajikistan has deported 250 Afghan migrant families over alleged legal violations, including the use of forged documents and involvement in illegal activities, according to the country’s State Committee for National Security.

Tajik security officials said some of those detained faced accusations related to drug trafficking, document fraud and membership in unlawful groups. Authorities stated that the deportations were carried out as part of efforts to protect national security and enforce immigration laws.

The committee added that the expulsions were conducted under Tajikistan’s migration regulations, amid increasing scrutiny of undocumented foreign nationals in the country.

Meanwhile, several human rights organizations have raised concerns over the humanitarian consequences of the deportations and called for greater transparency regarding the detention and removal process involving Afghan migrants.

No further details have been released about the current condition or destination of the deported families.
