UN Assesses Social and Economic Conditions in Northern Afghanistan
DID Press: UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has announced that Deputy Special Representative Georgette Gagnon visited the provinces of Balkh Province and Samangan Province to assess the social and economic situation of communities in northern Afghanistan.

According to UNAMA, Gagnon held meetings with Taliban officials, as well as male and female business owners and returning migrants, discussing urgent humanitarian needs, economic challenges, and potential solutions for vulnerable families.
Local women entrepreneurs and traders raised concerns about business restrictions, employment opportunities, and limited access to economic resources, while returnees highlighted difficulties related to livelihoods, basic services, and humanitarian assistance.
Gagnon reaffirmed that the United Nations remains committed to supporting the Afghan people and addressing urgent humanitarian needs across the country.
“The United Nations is here to support the people of Afghanistan,” she said.
The visit comes amid ongoing economic hardship, unemployment, and poverty in northern provinces, where humanitarian organizations continue to stress the need for sustained international aid.
