Ex-Pakistan Envoy: Taliban Ignore TTP Attacks While Condemning Selective Violence

DID Press: Asif Durrani has accused the Taliban of selectively condemning violence, saying the group refuses to denounce attacks carried out by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan despite the presence of its leaders inside Afghanistan.

Reacting to the Taliban’s statement on the deadly bombing targeting a passenger train in Quetta, Durrani said Taliban authorities condemn only those attacks that serve their political interests while remaining silent on TTP violence against Pakistani civilians and security forces.

In a response to a social media post by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, Durrani stated that TTP leaders are based in Afghanistan and continue to direct attacks from there.

The latest attack in Quetta occurred when a car bomb struck a train carrying soldiers, killing at least 34 people and injuring more than 96 others. Responsibility for the bombing was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist militant group active in بلوچستان.

The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, stating that “attacks on civilians, by anyone and in any form, are condemnable.” However, the Taliban have not publicly condemned previous TTP attacks in Pakistan that caused heavy casualties.

Durrani also warned that the Quetta bombing should serve as a serious wake-up call for Pakistan’s security establishment, arguing that counterterrorism efforts cannot succeed without public support and broader societal participation.
