Taliban Envoy Meets GCC Secretary-General in Riyadh to Discuss Bilateral Ties

DID Press: Taliban-appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mawlawi Abdul Fattah Sakhy, held talks with Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi at the headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Riyadh, focusing on bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

According to an official statement from the GCC, the meeting took place on Sunday at the council’s General Secretariat in Riyadh.

The two sides discussed relations between Afghanistan and member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as ways to expand cooperation in various fields. A number of issues of mutual interest were also reviewed.

The GCC said the two officials exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, though no further details were provided regarding the specific topics discussed.

The meeting comes as Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration continues efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with regional countries, particularly Gulf states.
