Baghaei Says US Faces Severe Food Insecurity, Criticizes Policy Response

DID Press: Esmaeil Baghaei has said that the United States is itself in need of “charity” to address its domestic hunger problems, citing reports on food insecurity across the country.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, Baghaei referred to data from the World Hunger Education Service and Feeding America, stating that tens of millions of people in the United States are affected by food insecurity.

He cited figures suggesting that more than 47 million Americans, including one in five children, lack consistent access to sufficient food for a healthy life, and noted that the number has increased in recent years.

Baghaei also referenced reports indicating that food insecurity in the United States has worsened since 2020, with millions more people affected.

The Iranian spokesperson further pointed to reports that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) stopped publishing annual food insecurity reports in 2024, suggesting this limits public visibility of the issue.

He concluded that despite the United States’ global economic position, millions of Americans continue to face hunger and related social and health challenges.
