Pakistan Says Karachi Attack Suspect Is Afghan National

DID Press: Pakistan’s military said one of the suspects arrested following a deadly attack on a Rangers facility in Karachi is an Afghan national, after militants stormed the security installation late Saturday.

According to a military statement released on Sunday, four security personnel were killed and four others wounded in the attack on the Rangers base in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.

The military said the attackers detonated an explosive at the facility’s main gate before attempting to enter the compound but were met with resistance from security forces.Six attackers were killed during the ensuing gun battle, while another suspect was wounded and taken into custody.

Pakistan’s military identified the detainee as an Afghan citizen but did not release further details about his identity.Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack.

The military vowed to carry out retaliatory operations against those responsible, describing the assault as one of the deadliest militant attacks in Karachi in the past two years.

The incident has renewed concerns over rising militant activity linked to areas along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
